# Convert X12 820 to PDF

An 820 explains a payment that has already happened: how much, and against which invoices. Drop it here and read it as a document, so the cash can be applied to the right lines.

## Money that has already moved

A remittance advice reports a settlement rather than requesting one, so the PDF does not print an amount due. It prints a total, because on this document there is nothing outstanding. The writer reads the transaction set to decide that, which is the same rule the screen uses, so the page and the file cannot say different things.

## What you get out

- Payer and payee from the N1 loops
- Payment amount, method and date from the BPR segment
- Trace and reference numbers from TRN and REF
- The invoices being settled, from the RMR remittance lines
- Adjustments and their reason codes where the message carries them

## Questions

### Why does it say Total instead of Total due?

Because nothing is due. The money in an 820 has already moved, and labelling it as due would misstate the document. An invoice on this site still says amount due, as it should.

### Which invoices does the payment cover?

The RMR lines name them, with the amount applied to each, so a short payment shows where it fell short rather than only as one net figure.

### Is an 835 healthcare remittance handled?

It is recognised and titled as a healthcare payment advice. The reader does not treat it as an invoice.

## How it works

The invoice is read on your own device. No file is uploaded, no account is required, and the fair usage limit is the only cap. Exports are PDF, Excel, CSV and JSON.
